Great news! Yucatan has been awarded as the best destination in Mexico 2024. This is exciting because Yucatan is now a tourism leader.

In this article, we’ll share with you why Yucatan won this important award and what destinations you must visit this year 2025.

What are the Food and Travel Reader Awards?

These awards recognize the best of the country’s gastronomy and tourism through public votes.

At this 9° edition of the prizes, 174 were nominated in 31 categories, 13 of which were gastronomy and 18 of which were tourism.

Why did Yucatan win these awards?

Yucatán was recognized as Mexico's Best Tourist Destination for its cultural richness, excellent gastronomy, growing service infrastructure, and diversity of attractions, including archaeological sites, haciendas, cenotes, ecotourism centers, and Magical Towns.

Yucatan not only received one prize as the best destination in Mexico but also three nominations:

  • The Best Wellness Experience
  • The Best Hotel Restaurant in Mexico
  • The Best Tourist Proposal

Joaquín Díaz Mena, the governor of Yucatán, emphasized that this recognition positions Yucatán as a tourism leader and opens up new opportunities for investment and economic development.

What destination must you visit?

1.- Discover Chichen Itzá

Chichen Itza in Yucatan, Mexico

Chichen Itzá, the best destination known as World Heritage by UNESCO, is the main place you must visit when you arrive in Yucatan.

You’ll be surprised when you see the Pyramid of Kukulkán in front of you; it’s one of the tallest pyramids in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Chichen Itza is one of the best destinations in Yucatán, as it is recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. This ancient site is rich in culture and history, offering insights into the Mayan civilization that once thrived in the region.

Aside from the iconic Kukulkan Pyramid, you’ll also have the chance to explore other famous structures, such as the Observatory, the Temple of the Warriors, and the Great Ball Court.

How Can You Visit Chichen Itza?

To enter Chichen Itza, you'll need to purchase an entrance ticket. You can buy your tickets directly at the entrance, but if you want to skip long lines, it's best to purchase your tickets in advance. Every year, thousands of visitors come to Chichen Itza, so planning ahead is a great idea!

Another great way to explore the archaeological site is by taking a guided tour of Chichen Itza. A Chichen Itza tour ensures a full-day experience, often including a buffet breakfast and visits to other nearby attractions. Along with exploring the Mayan ruins, many tours include stops at stunning cenotes and a short visit to the colorful town of Valladolid.

2.- Visit Izamal Yucatan
